By combining hana (花, “flower”) with emi (笑み, “smile”), Hanaemi becomes a metaphor for the flourishing of the self — the blossoming that comes when authenticity is honored, self-love is nurtured, and resilience is allowed to take root.

01. My approach
I approach my work through both a trauma and attachment lens, which allows me to look deeper than the surface symptoms and get to the root of why you may feel stuck. Early relationships shape how we understand ourselves, experience the world, and how safe we feel in connection. When early attachment bonds are disrupted, they often echo into adulthood as difficulties with emotional-regulation, trust, closeness, or self-worth. By exploring these patterns together, we can begin to loosen their grip, repair old wounds, and cultivate more secure ways of relating—to yourself and to others.
I support adults and teens seeking help with both acute and complex trauma, with a specialization in childhood trauma. Early adverse experiences such as abuse, neglect, or prolonged invalidation can disrupt emotional development and attachment, and these disruptions often contribute to ongoing difficulties with mood, self-esteem, and relationships in adulthood. By understanding how these patterns take shape, therapy can provide a framework for recognizing the links between early trauma and current mental health concerns.
I also support adults and teens seeking help with concerns outside trauma. What I’ve learned is that approaching therapy through this perspective can be highly beneficial for all. This approach allows us to address stress, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or life transitions with greater compassion and depth. It means we are not only managing symptoms, but also uncovering and healing the patterns beneath them, creating space for resilience, growth, and authentic connection.

02. My Modalities
A personalized approach to therapy.
I am trained in multiple therapeutic approaches and integrate techniques from various modalities to best suit the unique needs of each individual.
-
Sometimes our thoughts tell stories that feel true, even when they aren’t. Maybe we just to the worst case scenario, or are so hard on ourselves. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based therapy that helps us identify and shift these unhelpful thought patterns, reducing distress and opening up perspectives that are more accurate and helpful.
-
Big emotions can feel overwhelming. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) offers concrete skills for managing them, staying grounded during stress, and creating more balance in your relationships. These tools can bring a steadying rhythm to daily life.
-
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. EMDR is an evidence-based therapy that helps the brain reprocess painful or overwhelming experiences so they feel less intrusive in daily life. While it is widely used to treat trauma, EMDR can also be integrated into therapy for anxiety, depression, grief, and life transitions. It supports clients in releasing what feels “stuck,” reducing emotional intensity, and creating more space for clarity and healing.

Attachment-based therapy is grounded in the science of how our earliest relationships shape the way we regulate emotions, build trust, and connect with others. Patterns formed in childhood often continue into adulthood, sometimes creating distance, conflict, or fear of closeness. In our work together, we explore these patterns with compassion and curiosity, helping you develop more secure ways of relating and building the connections you want in your life today.
Drawing on attachment theory and interpersonal neurobiology, I offer a steady and reliable relationship where safety and trust can take root. In this space, you can practice secure connection and strengthen your sense of safety within yourself and in your relationships.
-
Who you are and where you come from matters. I consider how culture, identity, race, gender, and sexuality shape the way we move through the world, and I hold space for all the complexity that comes with those experiences. My practice is also informed by examining oppressive structures and systemic injustice, so therapy becomes a place where both personal healing and broader social context are acknowledged.
-
Person-centered therapy means that therapy is guided by you — your voice, your pace, and your goals. You are the expert in your life. My approach is collaborative and organic, unfolding in a way that reflects what feels most relevant in the moment. I also believe that everything you strive to be already exists within you. A strength-based approach highlights those inner resources, helping to cultivate self-esteem and self-love while also building clarity, confidence, and resilience to navigate challenges.
